About Michelle Risser, LISW-S

My approach integrates a variety of effective and proven methods including cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness and EMDR. I work with clients who have a variety of strengths and challenges. My clinical focus areas are maternal mental health, trauma, and utilizing EMDR to increase confidence and improve performance. I have specialized training in perinatal and postpartum mental health through Postpartum Support International and EMDR through The Institute for Creative Mindfulness.

I have a bachelors degree in Anthropology and a masters degree in Social Work from The Ohio State University. I have been working in the field of mental health since 2003. Before opening my private practice in 2010, my experiences included working as a psychiatrist's assistant in a large counseling center, serving homeless teens in a transitional housing program, providing medical case management, drug and alcohol counseling and mental health therapy for persons living with HIV/ AIDS and hospital social work with children and families at Nationwide Children's Hospital. 

I am also available to provide community and professional workshops, training and social work supervision. I am an experienced speaker and workshop facilitator and have lectured at Ohio University, The Ohio State University and many local agencies and conferences including The Ohio State University/ Talbot Hall Addictions Studies Institute. I have also developed and taught emotional wellness workshops in the community.
